Obituary for Marie Ann Yves Serant

Yvès Sérant, tante Yvès, as she was called by most of her relatives, died peacefully at Reading Hospital on Wednesday, April 1, 2015.

Born on April 3, 1914 in Port-au Prince, Haiti to Rémusa Pauyo and Vixia Chéri, she migrated to New York in the sixties and lost her husband, Jacques Sérant, as she was preparing for him to join her. She lost many members of her family: three brothers, some very close first cousins and some of their children. She has been a very strong and independent person living quietly in her apartment in Brooklyn, NY until 2012 when she moved to Wernersville, PA where she could be surrounded by a larger group of close family members.

Tante Yvès enjoyed life as much as she could. She enjoyed cooking her favorite food and inviting family members for small family gatherings. She cared deeply about friends and family. She always had a little present to mark a particular occasion: birthday, anniversary. We were very happy to celebrate her 100th birthday last year.

She has been quite healthy for her age until recently when the family was forced to move her to a Nursing Home where she remained until March 31. She started having some respiratory problems and was taken to Reading Hospital where she passed away on April 1, two days before her 101st birthday.
Tante Yvès leaves to mourn her, some nieces and nephews, one first cousin, some second-cousins, and some friends and relatives. We will all miss her. May her soul rest in Peace!
