Obituary for Gloria W. DeMott (Weidner)

Gloria W. (Weidner) DeMott, 91, of Sinking Spring, passed away peacefully Friday, January 18, 2019, at Berks Heim, with her loving husband John by her side. She and John had truly celebrated an incredible 68 years of marriage together. Gloria was the only child of the late Robert and Esther (Dunn) Weidner.

A 1946 graduate of Reading High School, Gloria earned her Bachelor’s degree in education from the former Kutztown State Teachers College in 1950. She immediately embarked on a lifelong career as a First Grade teacher in the Wilson School District. In fact, for 37 years she passionately taught first graders in the same classroom at the former West Wyomissing Elementary School, before retiring in 1987. Gloria truly loved teaching, and it showed in the influence she had on so many Wilson students through the years.

Gloria was also a wonderful, loving wife, and she and John enjoyed spending time together, traveling frequently to Florida, California and numerous other places. She also loved her cherished dog, Smokey, and baseball. In college, she played shortstop on the Kutztown University softball team.

In addition to John, Gloria is survived by her brother-in-law Richard DeMott, husband of Connie, Cape Vincent, NY, and nieces Stacy DeMott, Shillington, and Shelly DeMott, wife of Brian Kroenig, Cumru Township.

A true celebration of her long life will be held Friday, January 25, 2019, at 12noon at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, followed by burial at Laureldale Cemetery. Friends may call one our prior to the service, from 11:00-12noon at the funeral home.
