Charles M. Waid, 89, passed away January 18, 2017, in his West Reading residence.

He was the husband of Shirley E. Waid. They married on June 4, 1994.

Born in Maidencreek, he was a son of the late Irvin R. and Esther E. (Mengle) Waid.

Charles was employed by the Reading Railroad Company and Conrail for 47 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during WWII.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Melodie A., wife of Dennis Breidenstein, Wyomissing and Nannett Waid, Reading; and one step-daughter, Pamela Adams, Danville. Three grandchildren, Kyle D. Breidenstein; Jeremy N. Breidenstein; and Tedd C. Breidenstein; and seven great-grandchildren also survive him.

Charles was predeceased by one son, Gary C. Waid; two brothers, Nathan I. Waid and Calvin Waid; and one grandson, Jesse A. Waid.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
