Obituary for John R. Prendergast

John R. Prendergast, 71, of Wyomissing, passed away April 25, 2017, in his residence.

He was the husband of Ann L. (Hoyer) Prendergast whom he married on June 7, 1969.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late George and Mildred (Keeney) Prendergast.

He was 1963 graduate of Central Catholic High School and a 1967 graduate of St. Joseph’s University, Philadelphia.

John was first employed at Narrow Fabric/ Wyomissing Corporation. He was transferred to Chicago for Wyomissing Corporation for seven years. In 1976, he moved back to Reading and was employed be TCR Packaging Company. He was an active United Way executive volunteer in the 1970’s. He was the owner of Quadrant Sales in Reading since 2001.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church, Whitfield.

John had a passion for St. Joseph’s University Basketball (The Hawk shall never die), Penn State Football, and the Philadelphia Phillies.

He loved traveling, skiing, and golf. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by two daughters: Kristin L., wife of Todd Addison, Greenwich, Conn.; Kelly A., wife of David Buck, Trumbull, Conn.; three brothers: George, husband of Mary Prendergast, Bala Cynwyd, Pa; Thomas, husband of Carol Prendergast, Cherry Hill, NJ; and Robert, husband of Dorothy Prendergast, Grand Prairie, TX; two sisters: Mildred, wife of Paul Abeln, Breinigville, PA; and Ann Weller, Breinigville, Pa; one sister-in-law: Janice, wife of Michael Dries, Wilmington, DE; and five grandchildren: Alexandria, Nicholas, Lauren, Caroline, and Jack.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, April 28, 2017, at 12 noon in St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church, 2810 St. Albans Dr., Whitfield, 19608. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, Spring Twp. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the church.
