Obituary for Katharine B. Fisher

Katharine B.  Fisher
Katharine B. (Eckmayer) Fisher, 94, of Reading, passed away June 1, 2017, in Berks Heim Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Before her brief stay at Berks Heim, Katharine resided at Maidencreek Place which she dearly loved.

She was previously married to the late, Calvin W. Fisher.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Barbara (Sommer) Eckmayer.

Katharine was a graduate of Reading High School and a member of the National Honor Society. She was the first member of the family to graduate high school.

She was employed by Glidden Paint Company as an import/export clerk for over 30 years.

Katharine was a member of the Olivet Reformed United Church of Christ, Reading; where she was a member of the choir and served on the consistory and as church treasurer.

She loved to read, as well as do craft projects such as needle point and crocheting. Katharine also enjoyed traveling after retirement.

Katharine is survived by two children: Kathleen, wife of Thomas Engelman, Temple and Richard C. Fisher, Reading; one sister, Nancy (Eckmayer) Humma, Reading and three grandchildren: Natalie, wife of Gina Innocente, Somers Point, NJ; Andrea, wife of Patrick Leverty, Maplewood, MN and Adam Engelman, Washington, D.C. One great-grandson, Alexander J. Innocente and four nephews: Harry Ruth, Robert Ruth, Joseph Doll and Tim Eckmayer also survive her.

She was predeceased by three siblings: Barbara Eckmayer, Pauline (Eckmayer) Ruth and Jacob Eckmayer.

Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Kuhn Funeral Home and Crematory, 5153 Kutztown Road, Temple, PA. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Olivet Reformed UCC, 1648 Centre Ave, Reading, PA 19601 or the Food Bank of Berks County, 117 Morgan Drive, Reading, PA 19608 .
