The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of Frederick Sprow can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Condolence From: David L. Hughes
Condolence: I, like Jim Grube, knew Fred from elementary school and on through high school. Despite the force he had on the football field, I knew him to be a rather quite guy. For his sake, I am glad his pain is gone. Peace be with him.

Condolence From: Rich Kulaszewski
Condolence: I played youth football prior to high school with Fred I found him to be one of the best full backs I've ever seen. I moved from the summit area after my freshman year in summit but did follow Freds career in summit, winning the state championship. To a great athlete, football player and person. May you rest in peace

Condolence: Fred was a leader and force on the 1964 Championship Summit High School Football Team. I was proud to have cheered for him, and proud to have known him. Rest in peace, Fred.

Condolence From: Jim Grube
Condolence: Fred and I grew up in Summit New Jersey. Our friendship began in elementary school. From fourth grade on we were the closest of friends: boy scouts, sleepovers, summer camp and, most importantly, teammates on our high school football team. After college we kept our friendship solid at the University of Delaware and on to Vermont.

The last chapter of Fred's life was struggle. Diabetes took its dreadful toll. I visited Fred at Lutheran Home at Topton with our high school teammate, John Mallory and my wife Maggie. We surprised Fred. Many, many years had passed since we had been together. The visit threw us into the fondest of memories of our lives. Field Days at Franklin School, winning the Madison football game our senior year, Thanksgiving in Vermont. For this thin sliver of time the pain Fred lived with slipped away. The glitter in his eyes reminded Johnny of the high school buddy we called "Gator".

I am so thankful that I had this last visit with my dear friend. Fred, may you rest in peace.

Jim
