Obituary for Dr. James F. Feeman, Sr.

Dr. James F. Feeman, Sr.
Dr. James F. Feeman, Sr., 95, passed away September 20, 2017, at The Highlands at Wyomissing. He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, June P. (Zartman) Feeman. Born in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Edwin L. and Florence A. (Wenrich) Feeman.

Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. In 1945 he graduated from Muhlenberg College and, in 1949, received his PhD in organic chemistry from Lehigh University followed by a year of postdoctoral research at The Ohio State University. Moving to the Reading area in 1950, he devoted his entire career to one company, Althouse Chemical and it's successor firm, Crompton & Knowles Corp., where he specialized in dye chemistry research, invented 44 patents, and became Vice President and Director of Research. Following retirement he was an active consultant in synthetic dyes and chemicals throughout the U.S. Jim was a long-time member of Atonement Lutheran Church, a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club of West Reading-Wyomissing, a member of The Torch Club of Reading, active in the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia, a member of the American Chemical Society and was honored in numerous Who’s Who publications. He was an avid reader and tennis player, as well as a talented woodworker, photographer, and artist.

Jim was very devoted to his family and loved when they were all together for trips, holidays and all family gatherings. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by four children: James F., Jr., husband of Sheila (Greenberg) Feeman, Newington, CT; Jane E., wife of Stephen Hertzog, Robesonia; Joan A., wife of Rev. J. Donald Zeiter, Naples, FL; and John H., husband of Barbara (Gibbons) Feeman, Wyomissing; and two grandchildren: Sarah L. Zeiter and Madison J. Feeman. Three siblings: Rose Marie, wife of Robert Hunsicker, Aberdeen, MD; Dr. George F., husband of Ruby (Rhodes) Feeman, Oxford, MI; and John W., husband of Mary (Winters) Feeman, Lebanon; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was predeceased by five siblings: Mary, wife of Paul Vasile; Jeanne, wife of Henry Gable; Robert, husband of Verna; Miriam, wife of Henry Wytanis; and Paul, husband of Jane.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd., Wyomissing, PA 19610; Rev. Julie Recher officiating.
