Condolence: I was very saddened to hear of Mr. Kostzewa's passing. How lucky we were to have such a great teacher at Governor Mifflin. I loved Mr. Kostzewa's history classes. While I didn't major in history in college, he had sparked an interest and I went on to take history at Virginia Tech. Mr. Kostzewa had such a gift of bringing classes to life by sharing so many personal stories of his travels while teaching class. This helped spark my love of travel. I was lucky to see him and Gwen on Penn Ave. at a cafe a few years back. Of course we talked about his next travel plans. I hope that one day my daughters are lucky enough to have a teacher that is as special as Mr. Kostzewa. All my best at this very difficult time.

Condolence: My mother and I had the very great pleasure of first meeting Mike and Gwen 14 months ago in the German clinic where he and my mother were being treated. A number of our later trips to Bad Salzhausen also happily coincided. I can’t express what a joy it was to have such fabulous company in challenging circumstances. Gwen and Mike made every mealtime an event to look forward to. Mike was a fascinating storyteller and a funny, charming man who, while obviously highly educated and eye-wateringly well travelled, absolutely lacked ego. I respected him hugely. Even though I knew him for only a short time, I felt we were kindred spirits. His attitude to life was, and will continue to be, a real inspiration to me. He was a gentleman and a gentle soul and I am grateful to have known him. He was blessed with a fiercely determined and capable partner in Gwen. What an awesome team they made. My mother and I send Gwen our deepest condolences and wish her all the love and peace available to her at this terrible time. We hope to enjoy her wonderful company once more down the road. Love, Bronagh & Rita

Condolence: RIP Mike. I remember well all our baseball battles when I was coaching Fleetwood HS between 1961 and 1973. You and your players were honorable opponents and we always looked forward to meeting Gov. Mifflin in championship games.

Condolence From: Diane & Alan Hutchings
Condolence: We first met Mike and Gwen on a nine-day holiday touring around Scotland in 2012. We kept up the friendship by email and then had the pleasure of meeting up with them again in 2014 when they were on a trip to England and we spent a wonderful day with them at Bletchley Park in Buckinghamshire, England near where we live. Over the time we have kept in regular contact. From our first meeting on holiday we realised what an extremely pleasant, interesting and knowledgeable man Mike was.
We would like to express our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of Mike.

Condolence: Dear Gwen (Dr. Williams), I'm sorry to read of Michael's passing. What a wonderfully full, rich life he had with you! May the pain of his loss be lifted over time by keeping each unique journey and shared experience forever alive in your heart and soul. You composed a marvelous tribute that was fascinating to read. Not meaning to sound trite - yet knowing that special bond with 4-legged family members - I hope his beloved dog* finds solace with you as well. With Sympathy, Liz (Boland) Fedorowich (Alvernia '89) *Can you believe I could not originally send this because the second word of the dog breed was blocked!

Condolence From: Travis Przyjemski, GMHS Class of '03.
Condolence: I'm sorry for you loss. He was a great teacher, and I'll always remember how much Mr. Koztzewa enjoyed teaching us about European history. History class was one of the highlights of my day, especially if we were lucky enough to be a little ahead of schedule and get a story about some far-flung land he and his wife had traveled to.
