Condolences

Condolence From: Peter Loedel
Condolence: Dear Swope Family,

It was with great sorrow and sadness that I became aware of Adam's passing. I had the privilege of being one of Adam's professor's at WCU. In fact, I was active in recruiting him to WCU, one of my first students with a focus on bringing high quality students to the department. What a treat he was to have in the classroom. He was a wonderful young man - someone I stayed in contact with over the years, providing what I hoped was some good advice and counsel. He was such a pleasure to talk to you, discuss politics, and always see him fight for the good cause. In fact, we had lunch just a few months ago to talk career goals and opportunities to teach at WCU. I still cannot believe he is gone. I"m so sorry. I had hoped to make it back in time for his service, but was unable to make it. Please accept my thoughts and prayers, and my condolences to you the Swope family. Adam will be missed by all of us at WCU who knew him so well.

Condolence: So very sorry to read of the tragic accident and loss of your son, Adam.
Our earth is full of pain, suffering, and sorrow. Losing a loved one in death was never part of our Grand Creators purpose for humans.
God has promised to reunite us with our loved ones and to do away with our greatest enemy death.
Isaiah 25:8: "He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces. The reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth, for Jehovah himself has spoken it."
Revelation 21: 3,4 promises: "With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: “Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

Condolence: Dear Mr. and Mrs. Swope, please accept my most heartfelt condolences and prayers for your comfort during this time of mourning.
I have been friends with Adam for about seven years. We started out as work colleagues and ended up becoming friends. We did part ways professionally, however, I am so grateful that we remained friends to share information and laughs. I recently vacationed in Philadelphia, Adam took the time to join my friends and me for a good meal and better laugh.
Please feel free to contact me if I can ever be of service to you all. Many thanks for raising such a wonderful son.
With much respect and sympathy,
Jennifer

Condolence: I had the honor of working with Adam in the 2008 Obama campaign, an amazing experience for all of us. Adam’s hard work and incredibly wonderful personality helped us achieve the historic election results for Barack Obama in 2008, which is a huge part of Adam’s legacy. Like everyone else, I am so saddened by his passing. Retired in North Carolina, I read about the accident with such shock and sadness. My heavy heart is with his family and friends, and I extend my heartfelt condolences and love for the memory of such a wonderful young man. He left an amazing legacy, and his hard work has made history in so many ways. Adam had a life so well lived, although too short. He accomplished so much, and I hope his family and friends can take a little bit of solace in that. I will always remember Adam with love and with admiration.

Condolence: I first met Adam on the 2006 Lois Murphy for Congress campaign and we have stayed in touch throughout the years, mostly through politics. Unfortunately, I didn't know him on a personal level like a lot of you did. Clearly, that was my loss. But, he was always a friend that I could count on to offer some words of encouragement, practical advice, an ear just to listen or anything else he could offer. As someone else said in their post, Adam always had time for you. Obviously, I wasn't the only one he had time for seeing how many people truly cared about him.

I think one of the things that I've taken away from Adam's sudden and tragic passing is the positive ripple effect Adam's life had on so many things and on so many lives. It's easy for a lot of us to get down on ourselves at times, but seeing how Adam's passion for life, genuine kindness, abilities to advocate and fight for a better society, and ultimately their affects on so many wonderful people he knew ... well, his passing is incredibly sad, but also somehow reassuring and life affirming.

We may not all become big time actors, singers or political power brokers at the highest level - and I'm not saying Adam couldn't have achieved these things, because he could have - but the positive impact he had on so many in his 38 years is astounding and knows no end and will only continue to grow. That's a lasting legacy that I think Adam would have wanted and been proud of and one which most of us can only hope to achieve in our lifetimes.

Thank you Adam! Thank you for being that friend you could always count on when needed. Thank you for your wisdom and insight. Thank you for fighting the good fight, no matter where it was, how cold it was, how defeating and demoralizing it sometimes could be. Thank you for your vision, leadership and desire to improve the lives of those around you as well as people you may never meet. Thank you for being an inspiration to me and others just by being your kind, genuine and sincere self. Thank you for being you.

My sincerest condolences to all who knew him. Adam's loss is tragic, sudden and devastating. Please try to take solace in the fact that you are not alone and that Adam will always live on in our hearts and mind.
