Obituary for John Eric Dodson

John Eric Dodson
John Eric Dodson, 54, died December 5, 2017, in his Spring Township residence.

He was the husband of Joyce E. (Groeger) Dodson. They married April 15, 1989.

Born in Altoona, he was a son of the late Robert L. Dodson and Kathryn J. Snyder.

John was a graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle High School, Altoona, PA in 1981 and Duquesne University in 1986 where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy.

He was employed by Weis Pharmacy, Oley, PA as a pharmacist. John previously worked for K-Mart in Shillington for 14 years in the same capacity.

John was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing.

John was a devoted father to his two sons, taking great pride in the success of both his boys growing up to be responsible young men. He fully invested in each moment of their lives, including camping adventures, hiking at Philmont Scout Ranch and supporting their Eagle Scout achievements. John also was passionate in his love of Martial Arts (he was a Master Instructor and a 4th degree black belt) and mentoring his students was one of the highlights in his life.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons: Eric Joseph Dodson who resides at home and works at HealthSouth as an occupational therapist and Kevin Gregory Dodson, a senior at Virginia Tech. One brother, Michael R. Dodson, Ephrata; two nieces: Heather M. Dodson and Belinda A. Busher; and nephew Justin P. Dodson and one great-nephew, Tyler M. Dodson also survive him.

He was predeceased by two siblings: Joseph P. Dodson and Laura A. Dodson.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd, Wyomissing, PA 19610. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Park Service 1849 C Street NW, Washington, DC 20240. Edward J.
