Obituary for A. Myrle Wiand

A. Myrle (Shirey) Wiand, 99, passed away on January 17, 2018, in The Highlands of Wyomissing.

Myrle was the beloved wife of Harold E. Wiand who passed away on August 28, 1998.

Born in Hyde Crest, she was the daughter of the late Claude J. and Anna L. (Miller) Shirey.

She was a 1936 graduate of Muhlenberg High School and a 1940 graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing in Lancaster.

Myrle worked at St. Joseph Hospital during her first year as a registered nurse. She continued her career at Community General Hospital for over 35 years before her retirement in 1985.

She was a member of Alsace Lutheran Church.

Myrle loved knitting and counted cross stitch. She also loved baking, traveling, and watching sports. Most of all, she loved and adored her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She will be truly missed.

She is survived by two grandsons: Mark J., husband of Gina M. Wiand, Reading; and Scott S., husband of Anja T. Wiand, St. Johns, FL; and three great-grandchildren: Alexander T. Wiand, Christian T. Wiand, and Chase M.D. Wiand. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and former daughter-in-law, Suzanne S. Ehrnfeldt and husband Dennis H. Ehrnfeldt, Spring Twp.

In addition to her husband, Myrle was predeceased by son, John H. Wiand who passed away on September 8, 2008, and her brother Joseph S. Shirey.

The family wishes to thank the skilled nursing staff of The Highlands of Wyomissing for their care and compassion during this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018, in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. 739 Penn Ave. West Reading. A visitation will be held from 9-10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Haag Cemetery, Bernville.
