Obituary for Candelario Matos Jr.

Candelario Matos Jr.
Candelario Matos, Jr., (a/k/a Jr. or Coach Candy), 50, of Blandon, passed away Friday, February 2, 2018, in his home in the arms of his loving wife and surrounded by family and close friends.

He was the husband of Jaime L. (Jablonski/Wertz) Matos; they celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary on May 30, 2017, and enjoyed 14 years together.

Born in Ephrata, he was the son of Candelario and Dominga (Matos) Matos, Sr., of Reading.

He was a 1985 graduate of Reading High School, attended Penn State University and then received an associate’s degree in Business Administration.

Candelario worked for the last 23 years for East Penn Manufacturing, most recently as a plant manager. He had the privilege of working with many wonderful people and truly loved his job.

He attended Glad Tidings Assembly of God, Reading. Throughout the years, he enjoyed playing the guitar for church services at various places of worship.

Candelario coached softball at various levels for the Reading School District for more than a decade. Also, he was a softball coach for the Olivet Boys' & Girls' Club and the Reading Girls Softball Organization for many years. Most recently, he enjoyed coaching his own boys in soccer and baseball through the Fleetwood Area Baseball and Soccer Associations. Candelario also enjoyed playing for multiple softball teams throughout his life including: Ludens, Giorgio and Beacon. He played baseball on his father’s team called the Reading Torpedoes. He was a loyal and fanatical Reading High, Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees fan.

What mattered most in life to Candelario was God and his family. He was a man of tremendous faith, despite his long battle with brain cancer. He always took care of and supported his family, and everyone who knew him, loved him. He was always positive and passionate about everything he did. He was competitive by nature and expected everyone around him to do their best in every thing they did. He was a devoted husband, loving father and son, caring grandfather, and wonderful friend. He will be truly missed by all who were blessed to know him.

In addition to his wife, and parents, he is survived by children: Trey A. and Chase C. Matos, at home; Skylie, wife of Jesus Morales, West Lawn; Taylor A. Matos, Sinking Spring; and Mateo N. Matos, Sinking Spring. Also, grandchildren: Jazalin E. Morales, Isabella E. Morales, and Alexander M. Rodriguez. Other survivors include siblings: Luisa E., wife of Jose L. Santiago, East Earl; Daniel Matos and wife Monica, Ephrata; Fermin Matos and wife Diana, Muhlenberg Twp.; Pablo Matos and wife Carmen, Reading; Dominga E. and husband Esteban A. Pedraza, Bernville; in-laws: James and Fran Jablonski; James and Sherry Jacobs; Shane and Jill Phillips; Dexter and Kimberly Jablonski and many nieces and nephews that looked to him for guidance.

Services will be held on Friday, February 9, 2018, at 11 A.M. at Glad Tidings Assembly of God, 1110 Snyder Rd., Reading, PA 19609. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 P.M. on Thursday, February 8, 2018, and from 10 to 11 A.M. on Friday, February 9, 2018, at the church. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made c/o Jaime Matos and sent to Edward J.
