Obituary for William L. Mengel Jr.

William L. Mengel Jr.
William L. Mengel, Jr., 82, of Reading, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Berks Heim Nursing and Rehabilitation, Leesport, PA as a result of kidney disease. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late W. Lewis Mengel, Sr. and Eva (Moyer) Kerner. He is survived by his sister, Suzanne G. Mengel, and numerous cousins and friends.

Bill was a graduate of Reading High School in 1953 and attended Albright College. He was self-employed and installed Bilco Basement Doors for over 50 years and previously owned WLM Upholstery, which specialized in Art Deco furniture refinishing.

Bill was a long time trustee of the Marion Fire Co. in Reading, where he had been a volunteer fireman. He also served as treasurer and most recently president of Fireman's Relief Association. In addition to serving his community, his favorite past times were relaxing at his bungalow along the Maiden Creek, working out at the Albright College Fitness Center, and driving his sports cars.

Special thanks for the loving support and prayers provided by family and friends, especially Scott and Susan Thomas. Also thanks to the staff of A-2 for their kind care of Bill.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Wm. L. Mengel, Jr. may be made to Reading Area Firefighters Museum and mailed to 1045 Union St. Reading, PA 19604. Services will be at the convenience of the family.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
