Obituary for Rosario J. Ciatto

Rosario J. Ciatto, 83, of Muhlenberg Township, passed away July 10, 2018, in Berks Heim.

He was the beloved husband of the late Janet L. (House) Ciatto, who died June 12, 2009.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Filippo Sr., and Verna (Caltabiano) Ciatto.

Rosario was a 1953 graduate of Reading High School, where he was a outstanding athlete and a graduate of Temple University, where he earned a Teaching Degree.

He was a professional baseball player for the Detroit Tigers farm System from 1953 to 1957. Rosario also was employed by Frank Ferrara and Son Construction, Reading Muhlenberg Vocation School as a carpentry teacher for 10 years, Ciatto Construction and was owner and operator of Rosy's Frame Shop from 1987 to 1997.
Rosario was a 1996 Berks County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, 2015 Reading High School Hall of Fame, and 2016 Berks Football Coaches Hall of Fame. He enjoyed sports, but most importantly, family was everything to him. He was a humble man of few words and tremendous integrity. He was also a great husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great- grandfather.

He is survived by his two children, Kerry A., husband of Cynthia A. Ciatto, Muhlenberg Township; Chris A., husband of Cathy Ciatto, Douglassville; six step-children, Stewart Gehris, Scott Gehris, Randy Gehris, John Gehris, Lolly Gehris, and Steve Gehris. He is also survived by former wife, Joyce Ciatto; one sibling, Joseph, husband of Lucy Ciatto, Wyomissing; and a sister in law, Louise Ciatto, Muhlenberg Township; 10 grandchildren, Michael, Jenna, Kristina, Chris Jr., Anthony, Nicholas, Taylor, TY, Danielle, and Shannon and 2 great grandchildren, Gianna and Peyton

Rosario was predeceased by two brothers, Salvatore Ciatto and Phil Ciatto.

Memorial Service will be held Monday, July 16, 2018, at 11:30 am in the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading with inurnment to follow at Berks County Memorial Garden. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11:30 am in the funeral home.
