Obituary for John J. Mastromarino

John J. Mastromarino
John J. Mastromarino, 91 of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 20 at the Reading Hospital, with his loving children by his side. Born January 23, 1927 in New Rochelle, NY, he was a son of the late John and Philomena (Bellucci) Mastromarino. He celebrated 46 years of marriage to his wife Eleanor, who passed away in 1997, and his family takes great comfort in knowing they are reunited once again.

John graduated from Iona College with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, and was a US Army veteran, serving our nation valiantly overseas.

He came to Berks County in 1974, and was Executive Vice President at both General Battery Corporation and The Bachman Company before retiring. He was also co-owner of the West Side Tennis Club with his children from 1985-2000.

Always one to give back to his community, John served on several Boards of Directors, including Community General Hospital, the Hawk Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and the Berkshire Country Club.

He was totally dedicated to his family, thoroughly enjoying get-togethers with his children and grandchildren more than anything, especially Happy Hour Thursdays, and golf with his three boys, particularly the annual “Mastro Open.”

John is survived by his daughter Patricia, wife of Mark Kacanda, Exeter Township, and his sons: Robert, husband of Lynn, Sinking Spring; William, husband of Elizabeth, Sinking Spring; and Thomas, Jupiter, FL. Also surviving is a sister Julia, wife of Anthony Rabasca, Palm City, FL, 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren, who will dearly miss their “Pop Pop.”

John was predeceased by a daughter Susan, who passed in 2017, and his brothers Alexander and Patrick.

A Celebration of John’s life well-lived will be held Wednesday, July 25 at 10:30am at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:00pm, and Wednesday morning from 10:00-10:30am at the Funeral Home. Burial will follow Wednesday’s service at Laureldale Cemetery.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
