Obituary for Lewis C. Ianni

Lewis C. Ianni, 84, of Sinking Spring, passed away Thursday August 23 at Reading Hospital, with his family by his side. He was married October 15, 1960 to his loving wife Barbara (Lutz) Ianni, and together they truly celebrated 57 years of marriage together. Born November 6, 1933 in Reading, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Irene (Marmontello) Ianni.

A graduate of Reading High School, Lew served our national valiantly with the US Air Force in Okinawa in the late 50’s. Following his honorable discharge, he worked proudly as a firefighter for the federal government, stationed first at Valley Forge National Park, and later at the New Cumberland Army Depot, Harrisburg. Lew loved being a firefighter, and introduced the Firefighter’s Union to the Army Depot, being named its first President.

He also worked part-time in the Maintenance Department at Boscov’s East, where he was known by his co-workers for always being upbeat, whistling and humming his favorite tunes while on-the-job.

Lew was a friend to everyone he met, and would eagerly help anyone with anything. Family always came first to Lew, and he particularly enjoyed the many cruises he took with Barb. He was also passionate about his faith, something he passed down to his three daughters.

In addition to his wife, Lew is survived by his daughters: Susan, wife of Robert Kuhling, Felton, DE; Lisa and Denise Ianni, both at home. He is also survived by a sister Carol, widow of Arthur Tolland, Exeter Township, and his fur babies: Molly, Emma, Georgia and Daisy, who always stood faithfully by his side. He will also be greatly missed by his three nieces, two nephews, and several grand nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers Joseph and Ralph.
