Obituary for Edward G. Thomas

Edward G. Thomas, 92 of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully Wednesday August 29 at Berkshire Center, Exeter Township. He was the husband of Dorothy J. (DeTemple) Thomas, and they would have been married 70 amazing years this October. Born February 15, 1926, Edward was a son of the late Edward H. and Angeline (Jordan) Thomas.

Edward was a proud U.S. Army combat veteran, serving in Germany and England in World War II, earning the Bronze Star Medal. He was also a retired Postal Carrier, working for 30 years, 26 of which were from the former West Lawn Post Office. A longtime member of St. Margaret’s Roman Catholic Parish, Reading, Edward was also Cubmaster of Pack 305, St. Joseph’s Church, for many years.

In addition to his wife, Edward is survived by a daughter Lori, wife of William Hozza, Colony Park, and four sons: Patrick A. (June), Shillington; Edward C. (Gloria), Sinking Spring; Donald J. (Tammy), Mohrsville; and William M., Sinking Spring. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Jill, Lauren, Amy, Brian, Karen, Philip, Christopher, Katy, Andrew, Kayla and Kristin, and two great grandchildren: Addison and Oliver.

Also surviving are a step-granddaughter Heather, three step-great grandchildren: Gianna, Anthony and Daylyn; two sisters Mary Ann and Carol, and three brothers: George, Henry and William.

He was predeceased by his daughter-in-law Luci, a step grandchild Desiree, five sisters: Francis, Angeline, Josephine, Lucille and Louise, and four brothers: Charles, Michael, Joseph and Lewis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, September 1 at 10:30am in the Chapel of the Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Rd, Reading. Friends may call Saturday from 9:00-10:00am at the Kuhn Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 5153 Kutztown Road, Temple. Entombment will follow Mass in the Gethsemane Mausoleum.
