Obituary for Margaret Regina Albert

Print
Margaret Regina (Walsh) Albert, 77, of Cumru Township, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at Penn State Health St. Joseph after a valiant battle with cancer. Born March 1, 1941, in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late James and Mary Frances (Joly) Walsh. She was the loving wife of Salvatore R. Albert; they would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary next month.

Margaret attended St. Leonard’s Academy in Philadelphia and St. Francis College, Loretta, PA, before graduating magna cum laude from Hahnemann Medical College. After marrying, she moved to the Reading area. Margaret started working at St. Joseph’s Hospital, then moved to the Quality Control Laboratory under the direction of Dr. Jasper Chen See. She returned to St. Joseph’s, where she retired after 52 years of service.

In addition to being a medical technician, Margaret was an amazing wife and mother, and eventually a beloved mom-mom. While raising her family, Margaret always stressed education, and she was proud of her family’s many successes. Later in life, she devoted her energies to attending and supporting her grandchildren’s many activities.

Margaret and Sal also welcomed into their home four Spanish exchange students; all four still consider Margaret their “American mother.” Life was always an adventure that Margaret looked forward to with great anticipation, and she enjoyed traveling with her family, particularly to Europe, Italy, Ireland and Spain.

Above all else, Margaret was blessed by a loving, affectionate family. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children and grandchildren: Dr. Joseph Albert husband of Ann their children: Karen, Victoria, Christa and Joseph; Jean wife of Thomas Battinieri and their children, Thomas and Christopher; James Albert husband of Gail and their children: Matthew, Grace, Samuel, and Sarah; Margaret wife of Bernard Brautigan and their children: Joanna, Nicholas, Margaret, and Grace; Christopher Albert, husband of Kristin and their children Ella, Charlotte, Luke, and Amelia; and Jonathan Albert, husband of Melissa, and their son, Andrew. Two sisters, Victoria, wife of Albert Conti and Mary Frances, wife of Kenneth Discenza also survive her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 19, 2018, at 10:00am at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 237 Franklin Street, Reading, PA 19602 with entombment to follow at Gethsemane Mausoleum. Friends may call Friday from 8:30-10:00am at the church.

The Albert family would like to thank Dr. Marc Rovito for his quality and compassionate care of Margaret during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margaret’s memory may be made to Penn State Health St. Joseph Cancer Center, at www.thefutureofhealthcare.org/cancer-center, or to Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church at the address above.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, PA, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
