Obituary for John J. Janiszewski

John J. Janiszewski, 88, of Reading, died October 25, 2018, at the Reading Hospital.

He was the loving husband of Mary Louise (Lazusky) Janiszewski. They were married for 58 years.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Andrew and Bertha (Powlowski) Janiszewski.

He was a 1949 graduate of Reading Central Catholic High School. He played football and baseball and was the senior class president.

John was employed by Metropolitan Steel, Sinking Spring as a machinist, retiring in 2003.

A devout Catholic, John was a long-time parishioner at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Reading, where he served as an usher and volunteer.

John was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

John will be remembered for many things; he liked to garden, read and work with his hands, especially woodworking. He also enjoyed weight lifting and body building. He once held the title of "Mr. Berks County."

John loved his family and was selflessly devoted to them; he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who was always supportive of everyone endeavors.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, James J., Michael A., both of Reading, and John P. (Kim), Temple. Four siblings, Carl A. (Pat), Douglassville, Eugene, Lilburn, GA, Joan Parker, Kenhorst and Robert (Inga), Sinking Spring and three grandchildren, Sarah, Molly and Roxsonna also survive him.

He was predeceased by three siblings, Andrew, Frank and Bertolet.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 29, 2018, at 10:30a.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 322 S. 5th St, Reading, PA 19602 with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 7 to 9p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Peter’s R.C.
