Obituary for Jeanette M. Zellers (Jarsocrak)

Jeanette M. (Jarsocrak) Zellers, 80, of Reading, passed away on Sunday November 4, 2018, in the Reading Hospital, with her loving husband Robert by her side. She and Bob celebrated 42 wonderful years of marriage together. Born January 3, 1938, in West Reading, Jeanette was the only child of the late Raymond and Mary (Konesky) Jarsocrak.

A graduate of Reading High School, Jeanette worked as a bank teller for many years in the Reading area. She was a dynamic woman, always putting the needs of her family and friends before her own. She was blessed with a tremendous sense of humor and a sharp, dry wit she often displayed while giving her sons a hard time.

She and Bob traveled throughout the U.S., usually timing their trips around NASCAR races. Her love of auto racing started at the Reading Fairgrounds, where she even got the chance to name Dick Tobias’ car “Super Dog” after winning a Fan Club contest. She cheered tirelessly for “her” Phillies, going to games in the Hall of Fame Club with her son Scott, and doing everything she could to distract opposing pitchers with her air horn and cow bell.

She also enjoyed trips to the casino, and quiet time with Bob admiring the flowers and birds in their backyard.

In addition to her husband, Jeanette is survived by two sons: Dennis Bender, husband of Patricia, Reading, and Scott Bender, Reading; and her mother-in-law Arlene, widow of Walter Zellers, Leesport. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Rory Bender and Megan Bender-Welsh, and her great grandchildren: Madeline, Gavin, Cecelia, Giovanna, Kylie, Charles, Fiona and twins Jackson and Austin.

A celebration of Jeanette’s life will be held Wednesday, November 7, at 11:00am at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA, followed by burial at Charles Evans Cemetery. A public viewing will be held in the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 10:00-11:00am.
