Obituary for Catharine Jessup

Catharine (Phillipson) Jessup, 83, of Wyomissing, passed away December 18, 2018, at the Reading Hospital.

She was the loving wife of Richard R. Jessup. They married August 15, 1959.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late H. Edward and Anna (Fick) Phillipson.

She was a graduate of Shillington High School in 1953, Nursing School, New Brunswick, NJ and Rutgers University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Sociology. She also attended Albright College. Catharine served on the Shillington High School Alumni Association acting secretary and Far View Elementary School Alumni

Catharine was employed by the VA Hospital, Lebanon.

She was a USO girl serving during 1955-1958.

Catharine was an active member of the West Lawn United Methodist Church, Wyomissing where she proudly served in the Women’s Club and on the needlework committee. Catharine played various parts in plays in PA and NJ. She volunteered in 20 mission trips including FL, MS and OK. She was also a volunteer for the Salvation Army and delivered Meals on Wheels for over 20 years.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children: Elizabeth, wife of Keith Nemeth, Piscataway, NJ, Rosalind, wife of Patrick Ebert, Womelsdorf, Joanne, widow of Lawrence Moretz, Milford, and Aubrey, wife of Chris Stephens, Harrisburg. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Frederick Ebert, Womelsdorf, Stephen Nemeth, Piscataway, NJ, Elisha, husband of Megan (Smith) Moretz, Marietta, OH, Jennifer, wife of Elias Pizzirusso, Argentina, Brittney Stephens and Brian Stephens, both of Harrisburg and one great-granddaughter, Alison Joy Moretz.

Graveside services will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 301 South 5th St., Reading, PA 19602. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
