Obituary for Elizabeth E. "Betty" Voelker

Elizabeth E. "Betty" Voelker, 86, passed away Saturday, January 12, 2019, at Reading Hospital.

She was the beloved wife of Joseph A. Voelker, whom she married January 27, 1951.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Elizabeth (Drexler) Sieber.

Betty was a 1949 graduate of Central Catholic High School.

She was one of the original members of Church of St. Benedict's, being a member 65 years.

Betty owned and operated Sieber's Kiddie Kastle for 25 years, retiring in 1997. Her mother established the store and it had been in business for 60 years with Betty working there a total of 40 years. A big part of her life was her business and Betty loved dealing with people and her loyal customers of the store.

She was a long time member of Reading Leiderkranz and was in the first group that started "The Schuhplattlers". It was also at the Leiderkranz where she would meet her future husband, "Joe", to whom she was married to for 67 years.

Betty was a sports fanatic and a diehard Phillies fan, never missing a game. She also spent countless hours supporting her children and grandchildren at all of their various sporting events but most especially basketball games.

Family was most important to Betty. She loved spending time at their beach home of 25 years in Rehoboth Beach, DE. She spent countless times there entertaining friends and family. Some of the most memorable times were spent on their pontoon boat flounder fishing.

In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by four children: Joseph G. Voelker, husband of Tina, Green Hills; David M. Voelker, Green Hills; Judy L. Magee, wife of Brian, West Chester; and Cynthia M. Nelson, wife of Steven, Green Hills. Eleven grandchildren, Steven Voelker, Erin Trostle, Kristen Overley, Lauren Voelker, David Voelker, Adam Voelker, Nicole Schonour, Brad Schonour, Kelly Schaeffer, Peter Nelson and Derek Nelson, 18 great grandchildren, and one sister, Anna Moyer, wife of Joseph, West Lawn, also survive her.
